Description
Indenture (contract) of mortgage release dated May 18, 1843 from Edward T. Iglehart to Mary Iglehart and William Welling, administrators of the estate of the late Joseph Iglehart, all of the Howard District of Anne Arundel County, Maryland, for property including a Negro slave named Edward. The loan (debt) is in the amount of $300. Witnessed by Justice of the Peace Jam. (James) Treakle on May 18, 1843 and recorded by the late clerk Jno. L. (John L.) Moore and examined by the present district clerk E. P. (Edwin Parsons) Hayden on June 20, 1842, the document attests that the debt owed by Joseph Iglehart to Edward T. Iglehart has been paid in full by Mary Iglehart and William Welling, administrators of Joseph Iglehart’s estate, thus releasing all of the property including the slave Edward back to the estate. See item hcbh089 for original indenture of mortgage. (Editor's note: Why there is a discrepancy between the year of mortgage release, i.e., May 18, 1843, and the date of record, i.e., June 20, 1842, is not known. Also, during this time period, Howard County was known as the Howard District of Anne Arundel County. Howard County was officially designated a county in 1851. Blank page 4 was not scanned and thus is not included.)
