Bill of sale dated August 26, 1843 for a Negro slave named John, alias John Brown, sold by Wm. (William) Welling, executor for Henry Welling, to Larkin Iglehart, all of the Howard District of Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The sale is in the amount of $136. Witnessed by Justice of the Peace Jas. (James) Treakle on August 26 and recorded by the late clerk Jno. L. (John L.) Moore and examined by the present district clerk E. P. (Edwin Parsons) Hayden on September 26, the document requires John, alian John Brown, to serve Larkin Iglehart until March 10, 1848, when he is to be set free. (Editor's note: During this time period, Howard County was known as the Howard District of Anne Arundel County. Howard County was officially designated a county in 1851.)
