Deed of manumission dated January 31, 1849 by Kitty Ann Lansdale of the Howard District of Anne Arundel County, Maryland for her Negro woman named Nelly Hughes. Witnessed by Nicholas Owens and Justice of the Peace Alfred Warfield on January 31 and recorded by district clerk E. P. (Edwin Parsons) Hayden on February 12, the document identifies Nelly Hughes as age 43 years. (Editor's note: During this time period, Howard County was known as the Howard District of Anne Arundel County. Howard County was officially designated a county in 1851. Blank pages 2 and 3 were not scanned and thus are not included.)
