Brown, Richard W Thomas, Henry H

Description

Bill of sale dated May 6, 1863 for a Negro slave named Anne sold by Dr. Richard W. Brown of Howard County, Maryland, acting administrator for the late Richard Brown of Howard County, to Henry H. Thomas of Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The sale is in the amount of $350. Witnessed by Justice of the Peace Joseph Hunt and recorded by Howard County clerk W. W. Watkins, the document indicates that on May 5, 1863 the Orphans Court of Howard County authorized Dr. Richard W. Brown to act as the administrator of the estate of Richard Brown and to execute a good bill of sale of the Negro slave named Anne in lieu of a defective document executed by the deceased Richard Brown on February 7, 1859. Also according to the document Anne was born January 18, 1844 and will be required to work for Henry H. Thomas until she reaches age 30 years, which is 10 years 8 months and 12 days from the present (May 6, 1863). (Editor's note: Blank page 3 was not scanned and thus is not included.)
