Description

Bill of sale dated August 14, 1843 for a Negro slave named Margret sold by Levi Chaney to Solomon G. Chaney, both of the Howard District of Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The sale is in the amount of $300. Witnessed by Rezin Hammond and Justice of the Peace Wm. B. (William B.) Hammond on August 14 and recorded by the late clerk Jno. L. (John L.) Moore and examined by the present district clerk E. P. (Edwin Parsons) Hayden on August 25, the document indicates that included along with his other property are a Negro slave named Margret age about 50-60 years, her children, and her grandchildren. (Editor's note: During this time period, Howard County was known as the Howard District of Anne Arundel County. Howard County was officially designated a county in 1851. Blank page 3 was not scanned and thus is not included.)
