Description

Letter from Charlotte Cowles in Farmington, Connecticut, to her brother Samuel Cowles in Hartford, Connecticut. Charlotte reported on an anti-slavery meeting in which a heated discussion ensued between William Porter, Noah Porter and Austin Williams. She also mentioned a man named Thomas who is at their house on his way north. Other escaping slaves are with families in the area. Thomas she found to be noble, dignified and subdued.
