Description

Letter from Charlotte Cowles in Farmington, Connecticut, to her brother Samuel Cowles in Hartford, Connecticut. Charlotte had not seen the carpet bag and wondered if the collars she made were stiff enough. She had been to Hartford to hear Gerritt Smith speak but had to leave early, so she entreated Samuel to tell her about the Thursday meeting. She admired Mr. Smith greatly. She had been reading Henry Stanton's speech a the New York meeting, and a letter he had written to Henry Clay, both of which she found powerful. Charlotte received a letter from a young lady in Mexico, New York reporting Thomas' safe passage. She heard a rumor that Samuel was going to marry Miss Clarissa Brooks.
