Description

Letter from Charlotte Cowles in Farmington Connecticut, to her brother Samuel Cowles in Hartford Connecticut. Charlotte explained the progress and success of her Ladies Society. She and others went around all day in the North District collecting signatures for a petition and were successful; she went on to say that many women would have signed the petition if their husbands were not so opposed. She also asked her brother to send her two items: 15-20 pieces of whale bones that are put into bonnets from Mrs. Orcutt; and a yard of backing to put underneath their keeping room stove.
