Description
Letter from Charlotte Cowles (1820-1866) from Farmington, Connecticut, to her brother Samuel Cowles (1814-1872) in Hartford, Connecticut. Charlotte addressed her brother's confusion with her last letter in which she mentioned she could not visit him because she had a meeting; her brother thought it was a Anti-Slavery Society meeting but in fact it was a meeting for the Farmington Ladies Sewing Society which she helped to manage. She got her dates mixed up which was why she wasn't able to visit. They were also in a terrible storm, which kept people from returning their anti-slavery petitions. Charlotte was able to obtain some free labor sugar and molasses from Chauncey Rowe.
