Description

This folder contains Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party newsletters from 1965. Articles discuss the activities of the MFDP and other civil rights organization in both Mississippi and Washington, D.C. News items on the experiences of civil rights workers in Mississippi recount stories of arrests, beatings, shootings, and intimidation. Voter registration efforts and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 are detailed. Activities of the Ku Klux Klan are reported as are the affiliation of Mississippi public officials with the white citizens councils. Activities of the Mississippi Freedom Labor Union are reported.
