Many documents in this folder relate to the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party's Congressional Challenge, including a list of Chicago congressmen who might support it, and "Freedom Primer No. 1: The Convention Challenge and the Freedom Vote" and "Freedom Primer No. 2: The Freedom Vote and the Right to Vote." The documents also show growing fragmentation and economic and legal problems and continuing violence against the group. One of the most interesting features of this folder is Fannie Lou Hamer's campaign schedule and campaign budget from March-June 1964 (?). While she and her campaign workers could count on $5 a day for food, the campaign set aside $10,000 for "harassment expenses," stating that "this item covers the expense of making bond and paying fines in case of harassment arrests [based on] our experience in the freedom vote campaign of October- November 1963 [when] more than 60 arrests, more than 100 other cases of police harassment, including fines and bonds, required e
