Shaneece Taylor interviews Plumer Lovelace on April 16, 2016 in Madison, Wisconsin. Lovelace talks about his experience growing up in Milwaukee, and his decision come to Madison in 1982 to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison as an adult student. Lovelace also discusses his career path after graduating from UW-Madison, as well as his views on equity and opportunity in Madison and Milwaukee.This interview is part of an oral history series done of residents of Madison on changes affecting the African-American community, beginning around the 1960s and continuing through to 2016. Three Madison high school students were trained in oral history techniques then interviewed black residents who had resided in the city for at least 20-40 years. In the interviews, students asked about four broad areas: 1) family history; 2) education; 3) work history; 4) and issues affecting the Black community in Madison, such as housing, educational opportunities, and racism and prejudice.
