Description

Conversation between Parler and an unnamed deacon of Long Grove Negro Baptist Church. Coll. by M.C. Parler Long Grove Negro Baptist Church Patterson, Ark. October 25, 1953 Reel 164 Item 4 Conversation with one of the deacons while I was eating my dinner in the church. Dinner was served"on the grounds" be-tween the midday preaching service and the Pastor's Anniver-sary service, but I was kept in the church playing back for some of the congregation some of the material I had already recorded. One woman asked me i f I was "demonstrating those machines." There was a great deal of interest in what I was doing, but no resentment at a l l. The Deacon talks to the Field Worker about the spiritual, "I Thank You, Jesus." dat song, da's a real song. But so many folks sing it, ought not to sing i t , in a way, because dey haven't never done nothin accordin to dat song. But He have brought em, but dey haven't done nothin to pay Him for bringin em.
