voice Mrs. Charlotte Stephens 1320 Bishop Street Little Rock, Arkansas May 17, 1951 Collected by Irene Carlisle Reel 119 Item 2 GLORY BE TO GOD, MY SOUL'S HIGH "Oh, that was ray mother's lovely song; and she could sing--she could sing soprano 'way up in F. Just naturally-she didn't sing by the notes." Glory be to God, my soul's high; Live for God, and let us all fly; Amen, amen. Glory be to God, my soul's high; Live for God, and let us all fly; Amen, amen. Oh, brother, you better mind how you walk on the cross; Your foot might slip, and your soul get lost. Amen, amen. Oh, I have some friends before me gone, And I'm determined to follow on; Amen, amen. Glory be to God, etc. And if you get to heaven before I do, Look out for me; I'm coming too; Amen, amen. Glory be to God, etc. "My dear mother used to--when she'd be hanging out clothes, Mrs. Terry, she'd sing that song--you could, near her all over the Square. People used to say, 'Oh, Sister Hill's hangin' out her clothes.' And she could sing that so. Funding for digitization provided by the Arkansas Humanities Council and the Happy Hollow Foundation.
