Description

Pictured is William H. Andrews. William H. Andrews (ca 1919- ?) was a successful hospital administrator whose service included working as Deputy Director at Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital. He was credited with devising a centralized dictating system to enable doctors to dictate information into phones strategically located around the busy hospital, according to Ebony magazine. Another of his innovations was to use a pneumatic tube system to deliver medications, thus saving nurses from the leg work of having to go to the hospital pharmacy to get prescriptions filled. One of his career stops before Cleveland Metro was Forest City Hospital in Cleveland, where he was administrator for five years. After leaving Cleveland Metro he was a senior vice president of the Cuyahoga County Hospital System in Cleveland.
