Description

This document is from a collection of financial papers related to the plantation operations of several generations of the Rouzee Family in Essex County, Virginia. The papers date from the 1790s through 1860.A bill of sale for a 42-year-old "negro man named Isaac." Isaac was sold by William A. Lane to John Rouzee. The signature of Lane appears in the bottom right corner next to the word "seal," which is circled in ink. The signature of a witness, Daniel Branin, appears in the lower left corner. On the reverse is written, "Bill of Sale for negro Isack." The document is handwritten in black ink.Transcribed by digital volunteers
