Description
Letter from Charlotte Cowles in Farmington, Connecticut, to her brother Samuel Cowles in Boston, Massachusetts. She began by complaining about the weather and the paper she was using, and the fact that nothing of importance had happened. Then she related a tale about Gerrit Smith and Theodore Weld traveling on the Erie Canal. The subject of discussion was slavery, and by the next morning, a majority of passengers voted in favor of abolition.
