Again this week, we have Francis Ruby with us and Francis was with us back in November, I believe. She was on the 29th of November when we visited with her before and we had such a good time, we thought we would invite her to come back because she has lots of stories to tell and this one today, the story she has for us today, concerns the BB Methodist Church, the oldest Negro—she’s sitting there watching me to see if I make a mistake—the oldest Negro church west of the Mississippi River. Is that right, Francis? Francis Ruby: In the United States. Marshall Dial: In the United States. It covers both sides of the Mississippi River. We’re not going to argue with her but we’re going to let her take off and give us—she’s going to tell us all about it, right? Here is Francis. Francis Ruby: Well, the BB Memorial Church is interesting because it is still functioning as a church and recently has become into disrepair so one of our pet projects here is to restore this very historical old Negro church and the way it started was when the Civil War was over and the Negroes were freed, they started migrating to this area.
