She told us a lot of stories beginning down in Sledge, Mississippi, where she grew up and she moved up to Parma, Missouri, from there she went back down in Arkansas to Turrell Twist. Lizzie, how did you get up here? You rode in a truck somewhere. Lizzie Owens: We rode in one of those big old trucks that was empty, you know, big old empty truck and he stopped I guess to get oil or something or another and my husband was with him and he asked him, “Could we ride” as far as he go and he said he was going to St. Louis and he asked him, would he take us to Caruthersville and he brought us to Caruthersville and that was 1938, the 18 of April.
