Note: "Gruppe von 3 Schülern Johanne, Mose, Daniel. Kein Mensch würde glauben, dass die 3 fröhlichen Knaben auf unserem Bildchen sehr mit der Not des Lebens zu kämpfen haben! Die 3 Schüler sind Sklaven und sie müssen neben der Schule für ihren Lebensunterhalt selbst aufkommen. Die Mission hat sich der Kinder angenommen und ihnen Arbeit und Obdach gegeben. Zwei von ihnen versehen am frühen Morgen und an den Nachmittagen den Dienst in den Pferdestellen und der Dritte ist im Haushalt einer Missionsfrau gewissermassen das Faktotum, brauchbar zu jeder Arbeit und geschickt und gewissenhaft bei allem Tun. Sie sind alle drei fleissige und begabte Schüler und wollen später ein Mal 'wenn sie alles wissen', in ihrer Vaterstadt als Lehrer amtieren." (Wuhrmann, A., 1917. No-one looking at this picture of three happy boys would imagine that they have to struggle with serious problems in life. They are slaves, and along with attending school they have to earn their own livings. The mission has taken them as her own, and given them work and a roof over their heads. Two of them work in the mission stables in the early morning and in the afternoon. The third is general faktotum in the household of a woman missionary. You can give him anything to do, and he is skilled and conscientious. All three of them are eager and talented pupils, and hope - 'when they have learned everything'...
