Norrman, west of downtown Atlanta, Georgia.Atlanta University was founded in 1865 by the American Missionary Association, with later assistance from the Freedman's Bureau. Soon after its establishment, the school began granting bachelor's degrees and supplying black teachers and librarians to public schools in the South. In 1929, it became exclusively a graduate school offering degrees in various liberal arts areas, and in social and natural sciences. The university merged with Clark College in 2003.
