Description

Donated by Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción.This project was partially funded with federal assistance from the Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.A girl in a short dress of red, white, and blue stands in the center of the plaza with a microphone. She appears to be singing. Along one edge of the plaza are several other young performers. One of them wears a flounced red dress with a sash that reads "[??]ina de nuestros origenes culturales" ("[queen?] of our cultural origins"). The others wear monster masks and brilliantly colored costumes. They might represent "vejigantes" the clown-like monster characters of Puerto Rican festival celebrations.
