Photograph of the construction of the New York State Capitol. A description on the back of the picture reads: Supt'd John Bridgeford seated in buggy in foreground. Old houses in State St, Capitol Pl, Congress St, and Washington Ave now razed are shown in picture. In the bottom right of the photograph, in handwriting it reads: No. 5. Sept 6th 1869 1.10 pm. Although it is hard to tell, white and African-American workers appear to be shown. In the middle of the picture, an pulley system is being used by workers to lift stone while men in suits look on.
