Description

Mr. Clay makes a speech before Congress (35th, 1st session : 1857-1858) upon the topic of allowing Kansas into the Union. He discusses his home state of Alabama's resolution to call a state convention to determine their course of action"" (i.e. decide whether or not to secede) if Kansas is not admitted as a slave state. He also speaks on the issue of slavery from a constitutional point-of-view and slavery's place in the territories.""
