Description

David Hubbard, representative from Alabama, discourses upon the territorial question,"" namely, whether the territory acquired from the Mexican War will be slave or free. After learning of the contents of the consitution of California, Mr. Hubbard demands that the new territory allow slavery, stating that it is unconstitutional to ""deprive a citizen of his right to property."" He discusses slavery in the South and the relative ""slavery"" of poor white laborers in England and continental Europe.""
