Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger.Full copy of this speech is printed in the April 15, 1864 issue of the Liberator, on pages 2-3.Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) manuscript composed in black ink on white paper. Along the head edge, "63" is written in pencil next to "George Thompson at the Capitol, April 6, 1864." In the tail- spine corner, "39B" is also written in pencil.In this excerpt containing the final paragraphs from his speech delivered in the Hall of the House of Representatives in the United States Capitol, George Thompson concludes his address by thanking his audience for all of the progress made in the anti-slavery movement. He also shares his hope that they will add to the list of accomplishments by passing "an Amendment of the Constitution providing that 'neither slavery not involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisidiction.'"
