Oral history interview with Howard Wolpe conducted by J. Michael Green at Friedman Hall on November 16, 1993. Howard Wolpe was a member of the WMU’s Political Science faculty from 1967 to 1972, and the University’s first distinguished visiting professor in 1993. He describes his arrival at Western in the 60s, Martin Luther King’s assassination and the effects upon WMU campus and Kalamazoo, local governance issues, and the formation of the Action Now organization focused on race and poverty in Kalamazoo. He also comments on the turbulent events of the late 60s, Vietnam and Western’s engagement of issues of the day, and running for city council election of 1969.No audio available.
