This document is from a collection of financial papers related to the plantation operations of several generations of the Rouzee Family in Essex County, Virginia. The papers date from the 1790s through 1860.This handwritten, single page document is a payment receipt signed by Daniel Farmer for the hiring out of an enslaved man, Lewis, by John Rouzee. The receipt is dated January 16, 1811 at the top. The document is written in black ink. There are no inscriptions on the reverse.Transcribed by digital volunteers
