Description
Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger.On verso, the letter is addressed to "S. May Jr. 21 Cornhill Boston Mass."Stephen S. Foster writes to Samuel May declining May's invitation as he "shall then be in the midst of haying & it will take me too long from home." He tells May that he hopes to leave for the West in early September but he can attend antislavery conventions every Sunday until then, "provided it be within a days ride of home, & you give me a few days notice." Foster promises to write May discussing his tour of the West at a later time when his "domestic affairs become more settled." Before ending the letter, Foster asks May to tell Robert Folger Wallcut to credit money to James F. Martin's account for the Liberator, stating that he would have mailed the money "but we have had such trouble with our letters of late that I am afraid to risk it."
