Description

The bulk of this folder is composed of documents explaining the importance of the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party's 1964 challenge to the seating of the traditional Democratic representatives from the state of Mississippi. The most prominent examples of this consist of a copy of the "Brief Submitted by the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party for the Consideration of the Credentials Subcommittee of the Democratic National Committee" and a series of primers explaining the purpose of the organization and the importance of the right to vote. Other highlights contained within this folder include a "Handbook for Precinct Organization" and a copy of the lawsuit, "Peggy J. Connor, Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, et al. v. Paul B. JOHNSON et al."
