Description
Photograph of nine volunteers excavating near slave quarters on Ossabaw Island, Georgia, a mostly uninhabited barrier island that is ideal for archaeological digs because of its pristine condition. The people work in a field surrounded by a wooden fence. The slave quarters stand in the background. The two buildings are simple tabby structures with peaked red roofs. Ossabaw Island became the property of the state of Georgia in 1978.
