Description

Photograph of the north side of the 800 block Ashland Avenue at Hillman Street in Baltimore, Maryland. These two- and three-story brick row houses appear to be deserted, except for the corner grocery store, with signs advertising Pepsi-Cola, Coca-Cola, Dr. Pepper, Sun-Spot, Pep, and 7-Up sodas, Garrett’s snuff, and Bond bread on the outer walls and windows. To the right along the sidewalk is an African American man bent over and sorting newspapers and other recyclable items for loading into the handcart parked by the curb.
