Image of the only surviving photograph of Georgia quiltmaker Harriet Powers. The photograph, made about 1897, depicts her wearing a special apron with images of a moon, cross, and sun or shooting star. Celestial bodies such as these appear repeatedly in her quilts, indicating their importance to her.
