Encyclopedia article about Slater King, civil rights activist and real estate broker who focused his entrepreneurial skills on plans to help African Americans in Albany and Dougherty County achieve economic independence. King attended Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. He worked for the Aetna Insurance Company and was influential in the development of the Albany Movement, a coalition of local African American organizations that united to protest injustice and segregation in the black community.The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.
