He tells May that he is trying to mitigate the book's effect on the British public. Pillsbury informs May that he Is planning to publish a speech he made at the Manchester Anti-Slavery Conference. He says that he does not expect to get any help for the anti-slavery cause from Derby and that it is doubtful he will return to England at a later date
