Through fiction, stories take on actual issues that people are facing in their lived experiences and it is a way to create and foster collective memory. The concept of connecting reader to author by written word is explored, and how writing can facilitate empathy. The panelists also offer suggestions to aspiring writers and delve into black experiences, black vernacular within literature, and disrupting white literary hegemony to create authentic black literature.
