The McAfee Transfer service, owned by James M. McAfee, was listed in the 1924 and 1925 editions of the Pasadena Directory with an address at 1126 Sunset Avenue. Transfer companies, which transported luggage from the railway station to private residences, were businesses in which African Americans were involved from the early 1900s. Reuben Scott, who arrived in Pasadena from Georgia in the late 1880s, became one of Pasadena's wealthiest African Americans from his transfer business in the early 1900s and was one of the founders in 1893 of Friendship Baptist Church, the second African-American church established in Pasadena.
