Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger.Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) manuscript composed in black ink on white paper. Above the salutation the number "60" is written in pencil.In this letter to William Lloyd Garrison, George Thompson discusses the address he delivered "in the Hall of Representatives." Thompson details how he met Mr. [John] Pierpont and Vice President Hannibal Hamlin before receiving a "hearty greeting" from President Abraham Lincoln as they all went to the House of Representatives. Thompson comments that "the whole affair has passed off remarkably well". He says he was then invited by President Lincoln to come to the White House, telling Garrison "it will not be long I trust my dear friend ere you shall stand where I have stood to night."
