This data book was prepared as part of CDF's broader campaign to prevent adolescent pregnancy and to improve the availability and quality of prenatal care for pregnant tenage girls and for all women. The purpose of the book is to provide all concerned persons with detailed but understandable information about where our largest cities, states, and the nation stand on matters involving the health of pregnant women and infants. Part One presents a wide variety of national statistics about mothers and infants and charts the nation's progress toward improving their health. Part Two contains a detailed series of data tables on state health statistics. Part Three presents vital statistics for the United States in 1982.
