Description

African-American boys and girls lie on blankets and a mattress on the floor, probably in an emergency shelter. They appear to be sleeping and are covered with blankets and a patchwork quilt. A row of wooden chairs is at the right. Pipes run along the brick wall in the background. Inscribed on back: "Courant / P. Sept. 23 / 38."
