Description
This is a front and side view of the Dr. John Julius LeMoyne House in Washington, Washington County. This Greek Revival house was built in 1812. This photograph was not used in Stotz's 1936 book entitled Early Architecture of Western Pennsylvania (image is W2-6b). John LeMoyne's son, Dr. Francis Julius LeMoyne, was an abolitionist, and the LeMoyne House became a stop on the Underground Railroad for escaping slaves. The LeMoyne House is Pennsylvania's first National Historic Landmark of the Underground Railroad.
