Description
Photograph of Cannon's Warehouse in Dorchester County, Maryland. This warehouse near Patuxent Bay was used by Lucretia P. (Patty) Cannon, the infamous dealer in stolen slaves and kidnapped freedmen in the first half of the nineteenth century, to store stolen goods and keep captured slaves. When she died, a large number of feather beds were found, thought to be the former property of impoverished and evicted tenants (mentioned in George Alfred Townsend's "The Entailed Hat" as "Cannon's equation" or "Peale's Museum #2").
