Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger.Manuscript includes a 5.6 x 13.3 cm. fragment (author unknown) which states that "(t)he blue sheet is written by Francis Jackson, and the white by W.L. Garrison".Catalog card indicates that this manuscript is comprised of three pages joined together to form a single page.An index card within the folder of the manuscript states the following: "Draft copy of a petition requesting Massachusetts General Court to secede from the Union in protest to admitting Texas a slave state".Draft copy by Francis Jackson and William Lloyd Garrison of petition requesting Massachusetts General Court to secede from the Union in the event of the admission of "the foreign nation of Texas" as a slave state. The petition calls for a convention to be called for the purpose of "framing an independent and free government" for Massachusetts and/or similarly-minded states in the event of Texas' admission to the Union as a slave state.
