Description

Washington: The U.S. Supreme Court says the Rev. James Groppi is entitled to a new trial on the state level on a conviction in Milwaukee of violating a curfew ordinance during 1968 civil rights demonstrations in that city. It made the ruling 1/25 by striking down a Wisconsin law which bars a change of location for jury trials in misdemeanor cases. Supreme Court Justices are (L to R) front row: Associate Justice John M. Harlan; Associate Justice Hugo L. Black; Chief Justice Warren E. Burger; Associate Justice William O. Douglas, and Associate Justic William J. Brennan, Jr. Back row: Associate Justice Thurgood Marshall; Associate Justice Potter Stewart; Associate Justice Byron R. White, and Associate Justice Harry A. Blackmun.
