Connecticut. General Assembly

Description

Joint Select Committee reports it will only respond to resolutions from other states if they apply to the war with Mexico, opposes extension of slavery into the territories and the relocation of the border of Texas to the Rio Grande, and asserts that Congress has the right to prohibit slavery. Among the documents in this folder are printed resolutions on a number of topics from other states, and a document from the General Assembly proposing an amendment to the state constitution defining who can be an elector, praises Horace Wells for the discovery of the use of nitrous oxide in dentistry, and recommends libraries for prisons.
