Description

In this WSB newsfilm clip from August 1, 1964, Georgia governor Carl Sanders discusses getting a "moderate civil rights plank" in the national platform during the 1964 Democratic National Convention in Atlantic City, New Jersey, just after the passage of the Civil Rights Act. He asserts that most Americans want a moderate approach, and he states that politicians should work to enforce the Civil Rights Act without relying on "federal force and federal intimidation." He then declares that "local people [should be allowed ] to effect local solutions" to work towards compliance with the Civil Rights Act.
