Description
The July 1937 to June 1938 files include the correspondences of N. C. Newbold, the director of the Division of Cooperation in Education and Race Relations. The division worked to provide information on African American history and their lives in the south. Division members worked within the separate but equal philosophy. The subjects include curricula, funding, staffing and interracial education services at universities in North Carolina. Correspondences detail the creation of the division, meeting plans, and information concerning African American literature, history, and life in North Carolina. Also included are reports and meeting notes from the division.
