Looking Forward

Tuesday, November 8th was supposed to be a night of celebration. My roommates and I prepared snacks and beverages, and invited friends over to witness what we surely thought would be the historic marker of the first elected female president of the United States. As the hours dragged on, and more and more states grew red, tears of disbelief sprang to my eyes. I didn't fall asleep til three that night, afraid of the morning, afraid of what's to come. As a woman who identifies on the LGBTQA spectrum, I feel that this election was a direct slap in the face. I can't believe that my fellow Americans supported the hateful rhetoric of a man who has openly fueled racism, xenophobia, homophobia, climate change denial, and misogyny. I worry about the safety of my lesbian, gay, and trans friends. I worry about the safety of Muslims. I worry about the safety of African-Americans and Latinx community.
