Letters, diary entries, poems, and correspondence concerning the making of Elizabeth Sutherland Martinez's 1965 publication, "Letters from Mississippi". Letters contain information concerning the day to day life of Freedom Summer volunteers in Mississippi during the Summer of 1964. Files 00011-00042 consist of correspondence concerning the publication of "Letters from Mississippi". Files 00043 -00753 consist of the actual letters (in alphabetical order) sent to Mrs. Sutherland , some of which were published in her book. Files 00754-00847 consist of letters with an unknown author and/or letters received too late to make it into the book.
