A black and white photograph of the interior of a classroom in the Olgethorpe School at Atlanta University. The photograph shows the students at Atlanta University instructing a group of young children. Most likely the women are fulfilling their student-teaching requirements. The Oglethorpe School was built in 1904 and trained new teachers, focusing specifically on Kindergarten teachers. This building was associated with the Normal School at Atlanta University. Atlanta University opened on October 13, 1869. The University offered training for African American students of all ages including kindergarten, grade school, normal, industrial, academy and college.Record Contributed By
